Company Credit Reports

Why should I use a Company Credit Report?

You can use credit reports to help you make informed business decisions in relation to who you should be doing business with, reducing your exposure to risk and protecting your cash flow.

How do you indicate if a company is creditworthy?

We highlight creditworthiness through our ‘traffic light’ system of credit scoring – red advises you to be cautious and request a cash payment; amber suggests that you negotiate short payment terms; and green gives you a positive credit decision. Our credit rating provides a score of 1-100, plus a credit limit for that company is given alongside the rating so you know what they can and can’t afford.

Can I see a sample report before I buy one?

Yes. You can request a free sample report here, which will show the high quality of the data and depth of information we can provide.

Are your credit reports endorsed by any credit insurers?

The credit limits that feature within the Company Credit Reports are approved by all leading UK credit insurers. As an approved source it means that policy holders can use our recommended credit limits and integrate this into their discretionary policy limit or at a level advised by their credit insurance underwriter.

Can my company’s rating or limit be changed if we provide additional information?

There are two options: if the information is accounts related, it will be updated when amended accounts are filed with Companies House. If it is a CCJ based query, then the information comes directly from the Registry Trust, and we can only update data once it has been amended through official channels. However, you can contact for more information on this.

Why do companies file as Dormant?

All Limited companies, whether they trade or not, must deliver accounts to Companies House each year. However, a Limited company may claim exemption from audit when listed as a dormant company; which means that they have not traded during a financial year, as well as meeting certain other criteria.

I can’t find a Non-Limited company, can you help?

Due to the nature of Non-Limited companies, such as they don’t have to file official documentation at Companies House etc, we can only hold information on 90% of those Non-Limited companies. However, we also hold a slightly different company name to the one you have, so it would be worth using the advanced search function and look for postcode only. If this fails, we can carry out a fresh investigation into the company for you.

Why are there no Directors or Shareholders listed?

If a company is brand new, the Director information may be filed at a later date, or the company may have changed hands and had not updated Companies House accordingly. There is currently no legal requirement for Non-Limited companies to share this level of information.

You have a different company address to the one we have, why is this?

The address listed on the Company Credit Report is the registered address for the business and you may have the address of their accountant for example. For all the official information you can check the company information tab for the trading address to ensure that your records match.

What is the difference between a LLP and a Limited company

A Limited company is made up of shareholders, whilst an LLP is made up on partners and/or members. A Limited company also has to have an issued share capital to illustrate who owns the company. As a shareholder you are eligible – as long as the company is profitable – to a dividend dependent on your shareholding in the company, whilst partners and/or members get a distribution of profits. Consumer Credit Reports

Can I carry out a consumer search on anybody?

No. It is essential that you have the permission of the individual you are searching before you run the search; this is due to the Data Protection Act [1998] as every search leaves an electronic footprint on their credit file. The individual who has been searched will also be able to view that you have carried out a search and why.

I can’t find any results for somebody, why is that?

You must ensure that the name you are searching is spelt correctly, i.e. if you have Steve Jones, he could be registered as ‘Steven’ or ‘Stephen’. It could be that the person is new to the UK and we don’t have any information on them yet, or the person you are searching for has not registered themselves on the Electoral Roll. We can attempt to confirm their address however, via the Royal Mail database.

On a consumer report, why would a CCJ not appears on your report but appears on a competitor’s report?

Our consumer search partner Callcredit has very strict rules regarding allocating CCJs to an individual’s record. They will not attach this form of information unless it matches their address and full name.

Why is there an N/A on the credit score?

This means that we can confirm that the individual is real, but we are unable to match them to the addresses that have been given, in this instance we will provide a N/A score.

What is meant by Residency Confirmation?

This shows whether the individual is present on the Electoral Roll at their registered address. If the name of the individual can’t be matched on the system, the consumer report will still return a residency confirmation. We will then confirm whether the address exists and if there is someone with the same surname who resides at the address.

What is a Notice of Correction?

If recorded, the expansion of this detail shows the explanatory text that the individual would like all enquirers of his or her credit file to note. It is essential that the Notice of Correction be examined prior to making the final credit decision.

Sales and Marketing Data

Can I buy data on companies I want to target for marketing campaigns?

Yes. Our prospective customer (or prospect) data can be used from either a telemarketing or direct marketing perspective and can be tailored to give the information you need for campaign success.

Can I use a prospect data list more than once?

Yes. You are able to use the data for the length of your contract. However, we would recommend that in order to get the most up to date information and to ensure that you don’t contact anybody on the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) list; you refresh your search every 28 days.

What criteria can I use to search for prospects?

Our prospect search function allows you to search via a number of criteria that ensures you only target those companies who are potential customers and can help grow your business. The criteria include:

  • SIC code
  • Geography
  • No. Of Employees
  • Turnover
  • Pre-tax profit
  • Net worth
  • Credit score
  • Years trading
  • Credit limit

I have access to 3,000 prospects, but my prospect search comes back as 8,000. How can I see them all?

There are two options in this situation, you can either redefine your search by inputting additional criteria to bring the search results down to 3,000 or you can contact your Account Manager to discuss purchasing extra prospects.

Can I buy email addresses?

How does your data de-dupe work?

Depending on your requirements, we can de-dupe your database against your existing database and/or against the Creditsafe database.

What is a Data Health Check?

Our free Data Health Check helps you to evaluate your data quickly and efficiently. Whatever the size of your data file, whether that’s 500 or 100,000 business records, we can run a check and provide you with a report detailing the quality of your data. The key areas assessed are the record quality, authenticity of the data and the profile of your customers e.g. industry sector, employees and location.

Why should I clean my data?

A data clean ensures that you don’t face the following issues when contacting prospects through mis-targeted campaigns or incorrect information in sales pitches:

  • Incorrect contact details
  • Incorrect address details
  • Duplicated records
  • Incomplete records
  • Inaccurate records

What does your Data Enhance service do?

Once we have cleaned your data and highlighted what is good and bad, we can then enhance it for you by adding numerous fields including: turnover, employee number, credit rating, SIC code and web address. We can tailor Enhance to your business needs, you can ask your Account Manager for further details on this.

International Credit Reports

How do I view an International Credit Report?

You can access information on over 90m companies across 129 countries. Depending on the package you signed up with, your access to international reports may be limited. If you would like to add this to your account, then contact your Account Manager on 029 2088 6500 to discuss the options further.

How much do your International Credit Reports cost?

The cost of International reports will vary depending on the country, but this will be detailed in your Welcome Pack or you could ask your Account Manager for details.

What is the difference between an online and offline report?

When a report is offline, it is because we have to order the company information from that country’s provider of data. Our online International Reports indicate information that we can get from our own database.

What is Risk Tracker?

The Creditsafe Risk Tracker is a monitoring service that allows you to monitor changes to companies that you are dealing with. You choose the companies and the changes you wish to monitor and we will send an email notification straight to your inbox when these changes occur.

Why should I use Risk Tracker?

Being aware of any changes that may occur amongst the companies you liaise with is important when it comes to making business decisions. Risk Tracker saves you time by removing the need to manually check these companies, as well as ensure that the information you are basing your decisions on is up to date.

Can I control which changes I monitor?

Yes. You have complete control over what changes you get alerted to and on which companies. You also have control on the email addresses receiving Risk Tracker updates.

Can I turn off the Automatic Risk Tracker?

Yes you can. In order to do so simply follow these steps:

  • Log into your Creditsafe account
  • Select Risk Tracker from menu (left hand side of screen)
  • Select ‘My portfolio’ from tab list (above)
  • You will note a list of your portfolio’s, and the corresponding e-mail address for notifications
  • Scroll towards the bottom of the page and you should notice a box with two radio buttons
  • Select the one which states “I will add companies to risk tracker myself”
  • Hit ‘Save’

Debt Collection

Do you offer a debt collection service?

Yes. Creditsafe provide a No Win-No Fee debt collection service through our partner Advanced Collection Services (ACS), who undertake collection activity for a wide range of clients and have a proven track record in maximising cash where previous action has failed. 

Do you collect debts from Non-Limited companies or Sole Traders?

Yes. Advanced Collection Services has in depth knowledge of collection techniques and processes for Non-Limited companies and sole traders, as well as B2C recoveries.

Can I collect international debts?

Yes. Advanced Collection Services (ACS) specialises in overseas collections and provides international traces. ACS will identify which partner firm is based in the country of the debtor in order to recover the monies owed. These teams are aware of local laws and customs which are incorporated into their negotiations to increase success rates.

What are the commission rates?

There is no fee payable for any collections or trace instructions undertaken by Advanced Collection Services (ACS) unless they successfully recover monies or provide a positive trace.

What is the process to collect a debt?

At the point of referral, the Advanced Collection Services (ACS) team agree an approach, the content and timings of letters issued, as well as phone calls, plus reporting formats and legal action options if required. You can view a typical procedure on the ACS website.

Is Creditsafe a prime provider of data?

Yes. The information provided in our Company Credit Reports is sourced directly from a number of sources including Companies House, the London and Edinburgh Gazettes and the Registry Trust. We employ a number of analysts to both digitise and evaluate the data to ensure it is up to the highest standard.

Who is the Creditsafe Group?

What are the Creditsafe packages?

There are three main packages – Standard, Plus, Premier – each containing different levels of products. These packages are designed to ensure that companies of all sizes and budget are able to use the products that Creditsafe provide and therefore, help protect their business against the threat of bad debt.

Which package should I choose?

The package you choose will depend on the nature of your business, the number of products you require and your budget. You can view an overview of the packages here or for more details call us on 029 2088 6500.

Do Creditsafe have any hidden charges?

No. We don’t add surplus charges to your contract fee in relation to usage (whether over or under) or training of your staff to use the Creditsafe system. The fee agreed at the beginning of your contract is the final sum, unless you discuss additions to your contract. We provide free training and webinar sessions for all of our customers.

Will my contract be auto-renewed at the end of the year?

No. It is not our policy to auto renew your contract as it nears its end. Your Account Manager will call you ahead of the renewal period to discuss your package and if you wish to continue or cancel.

How often do you update your data

As a primary source of business information, the data contained within Creditsafe Company Credit Report is updated every 24 hours

Payment Information

Can anyone provide payment information?

Yes. We are working with companies of all sizes to integrate their payment information as this will be increasingly important to making business decisions, especially relating to trade credit, in the long term.

Does your payment information cover Europe?

Yes. We can provide payment data for Europe, as well as the USA.

How is payment data going to benefit my company?

It’s about seeing the likelihood of a company staying solvent, as well as how promptly they pay creditors. This data is an invaluable tool for cash flow projections and to identify habitual late payers; reducing the risk of bad debt. The majority of companies that enter into administration will show some form of sub-standard payment behaviour, either late payments or no payment at all. Therefore, payment data can prove crucial when contemplating business transactions with a company.

How do you stop false payment data being added?

We only allow a company the opportunity to add their payment experiences once, which means that you don’t risk negative or false payment information being added by one business to intentionally affect the data.


How do I get a reminder of my username and password?

It’s easy. Simply send an email to, place ‘Forgotten Log In Details’ into the subject line and then detail your company name, as well as your account number if possible and we will send your log in details to the registered email address we have on file.

How do I add a product to my account?

Log into your account and click on the product / service that you are interested in. It will display a message stating that the product is not included in your contract. Once on this page, mark the products you are interested in and complete the relevant details. Your Account Manager will contact you with the information required and discuss the next steps.

How do I print and/or save a company report?

At the top of each Company Credit Report there are a number of options that you can choose – you can select both print and save from here. Click your choice and follow the on screen instructions.

Why can’t I print or save?

If you’re having a problem printing or saving a report, this is usually caused by a pop-up blocker. To overcome this, click on tools within your browser window, then select pop-up blocker and click on settings. You can then add to your safe list and this will allow our pop-ups to print or save. If you’re still struggling, contact our Customer Service desk on 029 2088 6500, and they will be able to talk you through the steps.
